A Gardener’s Diary

I am often asked if past episodes of “A Gardener’s Diary” can be purchased.  I am always sorry to say no, HGTV owns the show and does not offer it for sale.  I am happy to report that you can now watch past episodes on Hulu.  Here is the link,

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is absolutly fantastic and the best news ever. Oh I am soooo happy!

    Thank you!!

  2. J.D. Waddell says:

Availability on Hulu is great news. Just seeing the title “A Gardener’s Diary” brightens by day. The sound track playing in the background is imbedded in my mind and with each though of the program, it plays on. Dang how I miss that program. And to H.E. double hockey sticks with H (little “g” or no g)TV. “A Gardener’s Diary” is still #1 in my book.

  3. Diana says:

I wish they had all the seasons and every episode instead of just Season 8 and 14.

  4. gardningirl says:

It took me a long time to get “un mad” at HGTV for taking your off your show. It was my favorite. Still rarely watch that channel. They should take the G out of their name. Your’s was a true gardening show. These makeover programs they call gardening proves they don’t know gardening.

  5. Karen Mowry says:

Well said! Erica’s show was indeed the best and you are right on about how little “G” there is in HGTV.

  6. Jean whitt says:

TV does not offer anything for the gardening public. Seems with all the diversity of shows there could be a few garden programs. I miss “A Gardener’s Diary” as it was the only show where one could tour many beautiful gardens across the US and learn something new from each gardener. Erica Glasener was the perfect garden host to tour these gardens as she was able to share each garden and gardener’s unique love of gardening.
Still hoping for return of “A GARDENER’S DIARY!

  7. Martie Thompson says:

Would love to see the visit to Pamela Harper’s Garden. How can I pull that up?

  8. Erica says:

I don’t know how Hulu works. If I get an update from HGTV I will let you know.

  9. Sandra Jonas says:

I NEVER watch HGTV anymore…. the GOOD show is off!!! Shame on them!

Come drop by my site and visit my garden.

  10. Sue Ellen says:

I watched two shows this afternoon . Loved seeing them and hope that they add more.

  11. Rhetta says:

I miss the show so much. I was so disappointed when it was cancelled. Just wish they’d show the old ones over and over – they were always too short for me to really take in everything. Erica’s approach to interviewing the gardeners was absolutely excellent – low-key and relaxed. She put the gardener and the garden in the spotlight – no big ego there!

  12. Karen Mullaney says:

Erica’s Diary and Kathy Renwald’s Garden Journal were the highlights of my Sat. HGTV has never had anything to compare to it. We need a whole Garden network!

  13. Janet Krikston says:

Thank you so much for connecting us to Hulu and your past garden shows. They are so wonderful when one longs to see detailed garden visits. please keep them coming

  14. roxan says:

I’m happy to know that I’m not the only one who miss’s this program. lucky for me I did tape many of the episode’s. I’m in the process of changing my vcr tape’s to dvd. I could watch each one many times and see something new each time.
Like JD, the background music brings great comfort and pleasure to me.
Thanks to all the folks who share there wonderful gardens!

  15. Pamela Small says:

Great news Erica! I too have been upset with HGTV.

I’m sick of the crashers shows and the real estate shows! I mean seriously, how many hours are wasted with episode after episode of House Hunters! I want classic A Gardener’s Diary episodes and I want new episodes! HGTV needs to put “classy” back on tv.

I will be checking hulu for these episodes.

  16. R says:

Thanks for the Hulu link. Yours was absolutely the best gardening show on TV. I guess everything has to be so commercialized that if you’re not hawking a construction product they don’t keep you on tv.They just don’t understand gardeners.

  17. Laura says:

Do you know who’s responsible for adding these shows to HULU? I’d like to try to get them to add more than just the five shows.

  18. Erica says:

    Laura,
Unfortunately I don’t know who or how or why they decide to add shows or not. If I find out more information I will pass it on.
    Thanks for your interest. Erica

  19. Erica says:

Thanks Tom. Would love to do a show on PBS, but funding is always a big consideration. Haven’t given up the idea yet.

  20. Karen says:

    Dear Erica,
I miss your show like crazy too. I really appreciate all the gardeners who shared with all of us. I pray to see you back to HGTV. Do you have your own website? Thank you for all the great shows.

  21. Joanne Kalmar says:

I CAN NOT TELL YOU HOW WONDERFUL IT FELT TO WATCH A FEW OF THE OLD EPISODES AND HEAR THE THEME SONG AGAIN. FROM READING THE OTHER COMMENTS I REALIZE HOW MANY OTHER GARDENERS OUT THERE ARE FEELING THE SAME WAY. AS I LOST ALL MY RECORDED EPISODES WHEN OUR DIRECT TV BOX WENT, I AM WONDERING IF ANYONE THOUGHT OF COPYING THEIR EPISODES AND OFFERING THEM FOR PURCHASE FOR THE THOSE OF US WHO WOULD LIKE TO BUY THEM. JUST A THOUGHT.

  22. Erica says:

Thanks Joanne. I am just glad they are on Hulu. Still hope to make more shows !

  23. Erica says:

Thanks. I would try the camellia, fortunately the plants don’t read the books!

  24. Erica says:

Thanks Vanessa. I hope we will produce new shows in the future.

  25. Erica says:

Thanks for your positive comments. Past shows are available online at hulu.com

  26. Tony says:

Let me add my desire to see new episodes. I learned a great deal from your show and always found them soothing as you walked me through places I’d never see otherwise. It was a delight that I miss. I hope so e cable network takes up gardening shows instead go hardscaping shows that are the current fad.

  27. Candace says:

There is such a huge audience for this show…what is H(g)TV doing? It should be called the Real Estate Channel. I never turn it on anymore. I feel I have lost old friends…so wonderful to reconnect with Erica and all her gardening guests.

  28. Elizabeth says:

Oh how I wish HGTV would put this show on again. Or maybe PBS would pick it up. I loved the show for its peaceful way of gardening. that is real gardening. those do it in two day makeovers are unrealistic at best. Peace and tranquility are a thing of the past. sad really.

  29. Maureen says:

Great news. I used to watch your show early mornings. So relaxing before heading to work. There’s something special about your presentation that really brings us along on the garden visits with you.

  30. Mary says:

I miss your show. Brings happiness and peace, in a difficult world. Thanks,
    Mary

  31. Erica says:

Thanks Mary, I miss it too!

  32. anita says:

I didn’t see this until now (about hulu). So glad. I never watch HGTV any more. As others have said, they should take the “G” out of their name. Gardener’s Diary, Gardener’s Journal, Grow It and Gardening by the Yard were my favourites, but your show was the best and most beautiful. I do hope you will be on PBS some day. So glad you have your website.

  33. Erica says:

Anita, thanks for your kind words. I too hope to be back on TV soon, or maybe online. Until then,
    happy gardening.

  34. Donna Black says:

I feel exactly like everyone else – What has happend to HGTV? My friends feel the same way. I would love to see A Gardener’s Diary again, new or I would be perfectly happy to see all the past episodes again and again! I could hardly wait to get up early to watch the program. I felt everything was right with the world.. Tried to find it on Hulu. Could not. What am I doing wrong? If HGTV doesn’t put the programs on, Please, someone do it…

  35. Erica says:

Thanks Donna. HGTV is a mystery when it comes to garden shows. AGD was on Hulu but not now. Hoping for more garden shows in the near future.
    Happy gardening. Erica

  36. Pamela Shepherd says:

I miss you and your show sooooo much! I always saved each episode and lost them when we changed to HD service. I was so upset! I miss watching them because there is NOTHING on TV that is fun to watch and teaches me at the same time. I loved that it was normal people and that they worked in there gardens themselves. I took notes and kept plant names on each show and the gardens seemed so personal and unique to each homeowner. I really hope you get back on TV with the same type of show format!

  37. Lisa Salden says:

Longing for your show to return. AGD and Kathy’s show were always one of the highlights of my weekend. Still can’t figure out why there isn’t a channel exclusively dedicated to gardening. Seems like such an obvious hit. Gardeners never tire of their obsession to create a little bit of paradise on earth. Very sad. Thank you for the great memories. Fondly remembering you strolling through the gardens in your straw hat…

  38. Erica says:

Thank you Lisa, maybe online someday. Happy spring!

  39. Erica says:

Amy, thanks for your kind words. Happy gardening.
    Best
    Erica Glasener

  40. Erica says:

    Rebecca,
Thanks for your interest. I wish HGTV offered our show for sale but they say it’s not worth it for them.
    Happy gardening. Erica

  41. Jody Hall says:

I agree with these posts about your show and the music and how relaxing and soothing it was. I loved your show could watch it for hours. I only wished I had copies. There are no gardening shows on HGTV anymore. I was just on their website to see if there was a way to contact them, but couldn’t find anything. Hope to see you on TV again – soon.

  42. Erica says:

    Betty,
Thanks so much for your kind words. Hulu is online television but I don’t think they are showing episodes of AGD anymore.
They were for a while but then stopped. I feel certain that good garden shows will return to television one day but am not sure when.
    Until then, happy gardening. Erica

  43. Erica says:

Thanks Therese for your kind words!
    Happy gardening Erica

  44. Cheryl says:

Please come back to TV! My husband and I watched your show all the time!

  45. Maggie Midgett says:

Hi Erica, I saved quite a few of your shows on my dvr. I watch them over & over & never tire of them. I’m so glad I recorded them when I did. HG TV & the travel networks have forgotten what made people so enjoy them when they first came to be. I rarely see anything worth viewing on either channel anymore. I hope they read this & return to enjoyable programming again.
    Sincerely,
    Maggie

  46. Belinda Bruce-Austin says:

Okay, I am confused why in the world is there not a Garden Channel yet?? Gardening is multi billion dollar business I hear but no Garden Channels? I mean there is a cooking Channel. Anyway, I hardly ever watch HGTV because they have changed for the worst..No Garden Shows and A Gardner’s Diary was and is the best as I watch re-runs on my smartphone and computer. How can millions of gardners be ignored like this by the media?? Can someone else pick-up A Gardner’s Diary”?? Well maybe under another title? I need my Garden Shows!! LOL!!

  47. Belinda Bruce-Austin says:

I MISS A GARDNER’S JOURNAL!! I ALSO LOVED TO HEAR THAT WONDERFUL MUSIC AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH SHOW..SO RELAXING!! MISS SEEING OTHER GARDNER’S BEAUTIFUL GARDENS, SO INSPIRING!! I NEED TO SEE YOUR SHOWS, DON’T CARE IF THEY ARE RE-RUNS. CAN SOMEONE ELSE PICK UP YOUR SHOW? THIS IS WHY WE NEED A GARDEN CHANNEL!! IF SOMEONE HAS EPISODES FOR SELL I AM INTERESTED!!

  48. Debra Swank says:

    Ms. Glasener,

I very much miss your HGTV show, “A Gardener’s Diary” – - so well done.

I’ve written to HGTV to request a return of your show and others that I miss.

My heart-felt thanks to you for your work – -

    Debra Swank
    Ocala, Florida

  49. Like all the other commenters, I, too, wish there was a way to have A Gardener’s Diary back on the air. Perhaps if enough of us could get together and contact HGTV about how we feel, we could make an impression on them and have the program reinstated. I remember making complaints to HGTV a number of times when the program was dropped. A Gardener’s Diary and A Gardener’ Journal were the best gardening programs on the air. I have a number of them recorded on tape, but they aren’t as clear as they would be on DVD’s. I would be happy to purchase them if they were available to purchase in sets by the season. The program format was excellent – exactly expressing how we Gardener’s feel about our own gardens. Hope you can come back, Erica. It has been several years, and there is still nothing that can rival your program!
